In accordance with its published company vision statement, the DLF Group has been offering significant contributions to the building of a new India for more than 62 years. The DLF Group is the forerunner in the Indian real estate market, boasting the largest reported revenue of any real estate firm in the entire country. With more than 231 million square feet (msf) of completed development projects and another 423 msf of projects in progress or currently pending, there can be no doubt that DLF Group has and continues to leave its mark throughout India. DLF Group specializes in residential, commercial, and retail real estate development, and the company has an expanded portfolio to include both development and rental properties. DLF Group employs a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) model to segregate its interests in the various real estate sectors. DLF Group’s Homes SBU focuses on condominium, duplex, row house, and apartment properties with price ranges from the Mid-Income level to the Super Luxury level. The company’s Office SBU offers a variety of A-grade office space styles and locations. The Retail Malls and Commercial Complexes SBU builds shopping centers and entertainment venues around the country. And the DLF Hotels SBU has entered into a 74%-26% joint venture with Hilton, launching business hotels across India. DLF Group has a long history of real estate successes, dating back to the company’s inception in 1946, when it was founded by Chaudhury Raghuvendra Singh. The DLF Group was responsible for the construction of some of the earliest residential communities in Delhi. Between 1969 and 1974, the DLF Group counted among its residential creations 22 urban colonies, including the Krishna Nagar, South Extension, Graeler Kailash, Kailash Colony, and Hauz Khas neighborhoods. By 1957, the Delhi Development Act put colony development under the control of the Delhi Development Authority, thus ending the DLF Group’s reign as leading developer in the city. The DLF Group, faced with governmental intervention in its business interests, responded by adjusting its primary marketing tactics and venturing into new territory, both geographically and within the real estate sector. The company began acquiring lands outside the Delhi Development Authority’s control and developing in the surrounding areas instead of the city of Delhi. As a result of the new company business strategy, the DLF Group expanded its target markets to include the commercial and retail segments of the real estate sector, and as a result, DLF City was born. A 3,000-acre integrated township in Gurgaon, DLF City features all the residences, schools, hospitals, hotels, shopping malls that a self-sustaining community needs, along with its well-known DLF Golf and Country Club. Today, the DLF Group is made up of six business lines, whose collective mission statement entails development of world-class real estate concepts throughout India. The DLF Group places high value in ethical and professional service to its clients, and the company strives to provide them with improved living standards and “a better tomorrow,” as expressed by DLF Group’s chairman Kushal Pal Singh.
